this page was set up by a family with a whole range of neurodivergences. we wanted to make a directory so that people could easily find spaces that would meet their needs.
looking for a quiet cafe that has the sunlight streaming in? or somewhere that has a walk through video you can watch beforehand? need clear menus? know a place that lets you book online or via email? a hair dresser with silent treatments? a toilet?
we’ve got you!
we also want to celebrate spaces and businesses that have thought through the experience of neurodivergent clients or visitors.
not everywhere on this directory is perfect. in fact, most of them may be fairly imperfect but we will highlight what works and what doesn’t. we will give an honest preview from a neurodivergent stand point. e.g.: “this place has very quick service and natural light but the menus are on screens that move and the music means you have no clue what anyone is saying…!”
we would love it if you could do the same!
we want the page to be community led. for this reason we ask that if you know of a place that should be on the directory then please add it!
we have made an option where you can search by needs first, such as “I need a space with low music and a toilet” or you can search by place such as “bakery”.
we would also love any feedback on the page itself and how it can be more accessible.
FAQs
why no capital letters? we asked around and discovered that for a lot of our dyslexic friends it is easier to read text that is all non caps.
what else are you planning? we would love to have an option on the page to read aloud. we would love to put filters on so you can easily change the colour of the page. we would also love to have an option to add a crazy amount of colour for those of us who crave a bit of glittery glimmery magic.
